strawberry picking  I remember growing up in Kent, The Garden of England, during the 1970s and 80s. Just about every town and village had at least one field nearby where you could 'pick your own' and probably no more than ten minutes away. I think just about everyone would go. Peas, beans, gooseberries, rhubarb etc fresh on your doorstep, so to speak. June is strawberry season, the pinnacle of PYO. Eat as many as you pick! This year, we decided to take our granddaughter out for her first PYO strawberry experience.  The problem was finding a nearby farm as the local one had closed a couple of years ago. No doubt due to changes in shopping habits, supermarket overproduction etc, cheap imports, re-appropriation of land and so on. PYO seems to have become niche rather than everyday activity, and many farms have opened up trendy farmshops instead, and even coffee shops. So, after forty minutes drive here is my photoblog on the disappearance of PYO....sad
